5、伯恩－琼斯（Edward Burne-Jones）
伯恩－琼斯是新拉斐尔前派（又名牛津会，以罗塞蒂为核心）最重要的画家之一，他是拉斐尔前派理想的热情支持者与实践者，是罗塞蒂的好朋友。
伯恩－琼斯是在罗塞蒂的影响下走上绘画之路的，拉斐尔前派艺术中中世纪的神秘的元素深深吸引了原本就喜爱神话传说的伯恩－琼斯。伯恩－琼斯以亚瑟王传说，圣经故事，希腊神话为主题创造了一大批充满浪漫主义情调的杰作。
伯恩－琼斯在给友人的信中说：“我在我的作品中创造一个美丽而浪漫的梦境，它不曾存在过，将来也不会存在。那光线比任何现实中的光线都要美，那片大陆不存在与任何人的记忆中，形式庄严而美丽，你能想象么……（"I mean by a picture a beautiful romantic dream of something that never was, never will be - in a light better than ever shone - in a land that no one can define or remember, only desire - and the forms divinely beautiful..."）
Laus Veneris
作品的题材来源于一个德国传说：流浪骑士唐豪舍发现了维纳斯堡，那是掌管爱的女神维纳斯的地下宫殿，被维纳斯的魔法蛊惑，唐豪舍在那里和维纳斯住了一年。唐豪舍为他的行为感到羞耻，他到罗马请求教皇的宽恕，教皇说宽恕是不可能的，除非他的法杖开花。唐豪舍回到维也纳，三天后，教皇的法杖奇迹般的开花了。<br /> 诗人Algernon Swinburne在他的诗 'Laus Veneris' 中如此描述维纳斯：<br /> Her little chambers drip with flower-like red, ...<br /> Her gateways smoke with fume of flowers and fire,<br /> With loves burnt out and unassuaged desires<br /> Between her lips the steam of them is sweet<br /> The languor in her eyes of many lyres... ...<br /> Her beds are full of perfumes and sad sound,<br /> Her doors are made with music, and barred round<br /> With sighing and with laughter and with tears,<br /> With tears whereby strong souls of men are bound.<br /> Painting Date: 1868<br /> Medium: Oil on canvas<br /> Size: 122 x 183 cm<br /> Location: Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England
